MEMBERSHIP
COMMITTEE:
Jill Burnham –
Co-Chair
Jerry Rubin –
Co-Chair
Members:
Ronnie Schmucker
Joann Schoen
Lillian Zell
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary objective of membership is to facilitate and
assist any prospective members seeking to join Temple Beth David. This
includes maintaining and distributing membership booklets, applications and
dues material. The committee is usually represented at Friday evening
services and works with Rabbi Bluming to meet and answer any questions
visitors may have about TBD.
The membership chairperson along with the hardship
committee work very closely with the Treasurer to help guide prospective
members seeking financial assistance.
The chairperson must get each new application for
membership approved at the board meeting and notify the prospective
members.
Events: While
each event hosted by social and other committees that attract prospective
members should be represented by membership the below listed are key events
done each year.
Prospective
Member Onegs-Throughout the year we present special Onegs to attract
new members we have had several events each year including chocolate
Shabbat, cabaret Shabbat. These allow us to offer events that focus on our
prospective TBD members and also enhance regular members Shabbat
Prospective
Members Brunch- Each year approximately. 60 days prior to The High
Holidays we host a brunch for prospective members and families to encourage
joining and allow a relaxed atmosphere to learn about TBD.
New Members
Oneg and service- Usually in February we host a wine and cheese reception prior to services to honor
the members who joined in the previous year. We also have the Rabbi
recognize these families during services that night.
Atlanta Jewish
Festival- In August each year Membership along with other committees
staff a Temple Beth David information table and represent TBD in the Jewish
community at the Atlanta Jewish Festival at Zaban Park. This has always been
an excellent way to reach the unaffiliated and has resulted in several
families joining.
High Holidays-
This is the single most important time for attracting
members. The membership committee recently became involved as the main
contact point for unaffiliated persons seeking tickets for High Holiday
services. The membership committee takes the initial requests and forwards
them on to the treasurer. This allows us to encourage these people to
consider membership instead of just purchasing Holiday Tickets. It is
important to also contact those who do not join soon after the Holidays to
seek feed back regarding their experience at TBD and to see if they now
wish to join.
Miscellaneous
Duties:
Prospective
member’s list- Maintain an up to date list of prospective members and
make sure they are aware of up coming events.
New members-
Notify them of Board approval and get them added to membership rolls It is
important notify the person in charge of Onegs and each committee head to
let them know about the new members.
Advertising-
Bring any advertising proposals especially High Holiday before the Board
for approval.
Return all
inquiries in a timely fashion- Check the automated call system
regularly and return all calls.
