YOUTH EDUCATION
Temple Beth David provides a rich and diverse educational program that ranges from a Tot Shabbat to grades K-7 Sunday School, and grades 3-7 Hebrew School. We offer Bar/Bat Mitzvah training.

TBD has a mentoring program in which adult congregants support and assist in the completion of their Bar/Bat Mitzvah books. Confirmation classes are offered to students in eighth grade and above.

Education Programs

TBD’s education department offers a wide variety of classes, resources and programs for congregants of all ages.

TBD offers two Family Shabbat Services each month specifically directed to our younger members. These child friendly services are held on the first Friday night of each month and the third Saturday morning of each month. The Family services are designed to make children of all ages familiar with and comfortable in a Shabbat service. Special prayer books for use by children, guitar playing to Shabbat songs and a story by the rabbi are all part of the attraction of the Family Shabbat Services.

Sunday and Hebrew schools are a mainstay of TBD’s education program. Sunday school is offered for kindergarten through seventh grade. Our Sunday school curriculum covers the following subject areas for each grade level: Holidays & Symbols, Prayer & God, Jewish Values, Jewish Customs & Practices and Bible & History. Different objectives within each grade level assure that students learn new material every year. TBD’s Hebrew school curriculum revolves around the Hebrew used for Shabbat and Holiday prayers, rituals and customs.

Students of Bar and Bat Mitzvah age are thoroughly prepared for their celebratory services. Two years prior to becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, the student receives a B’nai Mitzvah booklet. Topics in the booklet include Judaism in the Temple, Judaism in the Community, Judaism in Your Home and Judaism in Israel. The guidelines for B’nai Mitzvah requirements, from community service to Shabbat service attendance, are all in the booklet. An adult Mentor is assigned to each student to assist him/her in the completion of the booklet and for any other related

guidance. Private tutoring with the rabbi begins nine months prior to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah service date.

Temple Beth David is very proud to have a superior Confirmation program for eighth, ninth and tenth graders. The Confirmation curriculum has been designed exclusively for Temple Beth David. Over the three years of confirmation, students study the entire Tanach (Torah, Prophets and Writings.) Everyday issues, ethical questions and moral dilemmas are referenced back to the Tanach for examples, conversation and resolutions. This class is so popular, that TBD is now offering an Adult Confirmation Class! Please click here to see the latest class that was confirmed.

To maintain a tie to the greater Atlanta Jewish community, TBD’s Education Director attends monthly directors’ meetings sponsored by Atlanta’s Jewish Educational Service. Our Education Department is also guided by our Education Committee, which is comprised of TBD members. The Education Committee works with the school director to maximize the educational programming and resources available to all of our members.

We are always growing and adding new programs. Temple Beth David provides options for all our members to increase their Judaic knowledge and understanding.

Young Judea

Temple Beth David’s youth group is the Hadassah-sponsored Young Judea that got off to a grand start with a kick off luau! Our new and vivacious youth group offers multiple activities on regular basis. This

peer led group holds national conventions and sponsors trips to Israel. Participants also have access to Young Judea summer camps around the country. Jewish holidays and customs, such as kashrut, are

observed.

Music

Temple Beth David is excited about its burgeoning music program. Our religious school children learn traditional Jewish songs as part of their Sunday school class and are look forward to performing at Sabbath

and holiday services.
